Former American First Lady Michelle Obama’s mother, Marian Robinson, has passed away at the age of 86, as disclosed by the family in a statement released on Friday, May 31.
According to the statement released, Marian Robinson reportedly passed away peacefully this morning.
“She passed peacefully this morning, and right now, none of us are quite sure how exactly we’ll move on without her,” the family statement said.
The statement was jointly issued by Michelle and Barack Obama, along with Craig Robinson and his wife, Kelly, as well as Marian Robinson’s grandchildren: Avery, Leslie, Malia, Sasha, Austin, and Aaron.
Marian Robinson gained recognition across the United States as the nation’s first grandmother following the historic election of her son-in-law, Barack Obama, as President in 2008.
Despite maintaining a low profile, she became a familiar figure at the White House throughout his two terms in office, attending various events including holiday gatherings, occasional overseas trips, and concerts held in the East Room.
However, her most frequent presence was alongside her granddaughters, Sasha and Malia.
