Nollywood scriptwriter and director, Reginald Ebere reportedly dies

Nollywood gets ushered into another phase of mourning as one of its leading directors, Reginald Ebere passes on.

According to Leadership, veteran entertainer and actor Segun Arinze shared the sad news on the WhatsApp platform Nollywood Giants, which was created for notable Nigerian entertainers. Arinze expressed deep sorrow over Ebere’s passing.

The National Secretary of the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), Perekeme Odon, also confirmed the unfortunate news.

In his announcement, Odon stated, “We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of our dear brother and colleague, Mr. Reginald Ebere.”

Details regarding Ebere’s burial will be communicated on the platform in due course.

Colleagues and friends have been paying tributes to Ebere, reflecting on his significant contributions to Nollywood and the void his departure has created in the industry.

Recall that Actor Sam Dede called on the public and his colleagues a few months back to help Reginald Ebere who was currently bedridden.

The actor and another filmmaker, Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen appealed to the set of the return of the 2001 hit film Issakaba, written by Reginald.

In a video shared by actress Iyabo Ojo on Instagram, Sam and Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen could be seen asking for financial support for the ailing filmmaker.

Sam Dede said:

“Reginald Ebere wrote the very first script of Issakaba and incidentally it was I who changed the name of the lead character to Ebube.

Today Reginald Ebere is bedridden. He suffered stroke two times but very strong-willed person. He is still moving on but he is a bad shape, If you live in that concept of truth and justice, please let us find a way to support Reginald Ebere.

If there is anything you can do to support him, please look him up to support him.”

Lancelot Oduwa immediately organised a fundraiser on set and many of his colleagues donated money to the actor. Sam Dede and Lancelot Oduwa donated N100k each to the sick actor.
