NBA-SARC Demands Action After Killing of Anambra Lawyer, Decries Insecurity

The Nigerian Bar Association Security Agencies Relations Committee (NBA-SARC) has sounded a fierce condemnation over the brutal murder of Awa Peter Awa, Esq., Vice Chairman of the NBA Ihiala Branch and a prosecutor with the Anambra State Ministry of Justice. This egregious act represents not just an assault on the legal profession but a flagrant violation of justice and the rule of law itself.

The escalating insecurity ravaging Anambra State and other parts of the nation has reached crisis levels, with the latest tragedy underscoring the grave threats faced by members of the legal community. The cold-blooded killing of Mr. Awa lays bare the pervasive climate of fear that has engulfed the region, endangering not just lawyers but all citizens.

In a strongly-worded statement, the NBA-SARC has demanded that the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, the State Police Command, and all relevant security agencies immediately launch a comprehensive investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime. Decisive action, they insist, must be taken to guarantee the safety and security of all Nigerians.

“The legal community remains resolute in upholding justice and the rule of law, undeterred by such barbaric acts of violence,” asserted Chukwuka Ikwuazom, SAN, Chairman of the NBA-SARC. “However, we issue a strident call to governors of the South Eastern states to decisively confront the worsening security crisis plaguing the region. Implementing robust strategies to protect lives and properties, while restoring peace and stability, is imperative.”

The NBA-SARC has extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of Awa Peter Awa, Esq. and all impacted by this senseless act of violence. The Association vows to stand in unwavering solidarity with them during this dark hour, while intensifying pressure on authorities to stem the disturbing tide of insecurity threatening the nation’s legal order.
