An emerging report has it that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state has directed the State House of Assembly, led by Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, to commence impeachment proceedings against the state governor, Sir Siminilayi Fubara, with immediate effect.
As reported by Leadership, Chief Tony Okocha, the state’s APC Caretaker Committee (CTC) chairman, gave the directive at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Tuesday, May, 7.
According to Okocha, the party decided to impeach Fubara because he said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention in the political crisis rocking the state was only a political solution and not constitutional.
Okocha stated that where the Assembly fails to commence the impeachment process, the party will invoke the relevant sections of its constitution to discipline them as APC members, The Nation reported.
Meanwhile, the majority of the 27 members of the State Assembly are loyalists of Nyesom Wike, the immediate past governor of the state and current minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
At the moment, Fubara and his political godfather, Wike, are at loggerheads over the leadership and control of Rivers state.
Earlier, TimesNow.com.ng reported that Governor Siminalayi Fubara faulted some members of the House of Assembly who are loyal to FCT minister, Nyesom Wike.
Fubara condemned their actions towards his administration and said the members would cease to exist as legislators if he so decides.
Governor Fubara acknowledged the role played by some political leaders, especially his predecessor and minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in his emergence as governor but said that such efforts won’t make him worship a man.
