The clerk of Rivers State House of Assembly, Emeka Amadi, has disowned the pro-Siminalayi Fubaraâs faction of the Assembly.
As reported by The Nation on Thursday, May 9, Amadi insisted Martin Amaewhule remains Rivers Speaker.
The clerk said the three members of the Assemby loyal to Governor Fubara – Hon. Victor Oko Jumbo, Hon. Sokari Goodboy Sokari and Hon. Adolphus Orubimie Timothyâwere suspended on October 30, 2023 and cannot lay claim to be officers of the House.
Recall that on Thursday, Fubara, visited the Assembly complex as the political crisis rocking the state gets tougher.
Tight security was around the assembly complex as Governor Fubara visited the quarters where the Martin Amaewhule-led group met.
This came after some of the lawmakers loyal to the governor met on Wednesday, May 8 and elected Victor Oko-Jumbo, the member representing the Bonny constituency, as the assembly speaker.
In a video making the rounds online published by Channels TV, Governor Fubara took a three-minute walk around the facility before leaving the premises.
Interestingly, a group of 60 federal lawmakers said the 27 lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly lacked the powers to serve Fubara’s impeachment notice.
The 27 lawmakers, who decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are loyal to the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Earlier, TimesNow.com.ng reported that Rivers State local government chairmen called for Governor Fubara’s impeachment.
Under the umbrella of ALGON, the chairmen alleged that the governor has been withholding the councils’ funds, making them dysfunctional in their administrative responsibilities.
ALGON described the governor’s action as tantamount to proscribing the local governments in the state.
