Electricity consumers will now start paying N206.80 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) as against the old price recently approved by the regulatory authorities, FIJ has learned.
The unit price of electricity chargeable in areas categorised as band A was previously N225 (kWh). The reduction takes effect on Monday.
The Ikeja Electric and the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), supplying power to some parts of Lagos State and the Federal Capital Territory, respectively, announced the reduction on Monday.

On April 3, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) approved the upward review of the tariff from N66 to N225 per kilowatt-hour.
Many Nigerians were unhappy about the review, citing the unfavourable economic policies of the government, which had drastically reduced people’s purchasing power.
This latest decrease appears to be a nationwide development. However, the publications to this effect failed to disclose the reduction.
FIJ contacted AEDC to understand the reason for the new price, but Omowumi Stephen, a customer service agent, said she could not respond to the inquiry. She further said the company’s corporate communication team would call to answer the question, but that had not been done at press time.
